Resveratrol Improves Memory and Cogniton

Two recent studies, one human and one animal, were recently published in peer reviewed journals focusing on resveratrol’s effect of memory and logical thinking, or cognition.

The human study, conducted at the University of Northumbria, UK, found that the 24 students who were given either 250mg or 500mg of Bioforte Resveratrol, experienced an increase in cerebral blood flow by 100% after taking one Biotivia Bioforte 250mg resveratrol capsule and over 200% about 45 minutes after taking 2 Bioforte resveratrol capsules.

After administration of the resveratrol the subjects were given a series of mathmatical tests, and the brain blood flow were measured. The result of both one and two Bioforte capsules of resveratrol was a dramatic increase in brain blood flow.

James Betz, CEO of Biotivia, the company that provided the resveratrol for the Northumberland study, said: “These studies are adding greatly to the body of scientific knowledge regarding the operation of resveratol in humans.  It is becoming abundantly clear that many of the impressive results seen earlier from in vitro trials are now being confirmed in animal and human subjects.  We are pleased that Northumbria University, as well as many other prestigious research institutions, have chosen our Bioforte supplement as the resveratrol for their clinical  investigations”

These results show that a single oral dose of Resveratrol can increase cerebral blood flow and activate genes called sirtuins, which are believed to be master regulatory switches, affecting many aspects of metabolism and cell function.

Sirtuins are a family of proteins that includes SIRT 1 through 7, the so-called anti-aging genes.  These genes are active and perform essentially the same function in all animals.

The animal study, carried out on genetically modified mice who lacked the SIRT1 gene, found that these mice had trouble remembering the location of a submerged platform in a water maze, couldn’t tell the difference between a new object and an old one placed in their cages, and did poorly on other memory tests. The mice who were given resveratrol had a much greater ability to perform these tests indicating that the resveratrol enhances their memory and cognition.
